I wrote about personal style, and I would like to chat more about personal vs trends after observing the street style at the latest Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Sydney last week.
In true Fashion Week style, the street style looks were really exciting and "on trend". I saw a lot of Ellery flares, oversized shirtings and loads of Gucci by Alessandro Michele pieces.
Personally, I am happy with wearing my favourites from my own wardrobe, I think everyone should feel the same rather than feeling pressured to be on trend. Don't get me wrong, trends make fashion exciting and I would love to get my hands on the Gucci Princetown fur slides and Ellery Delores Top, who doesn't?
I tend to shy away from trends. As I get older, I prefer to invest in statement pieces that are easy and wearable classics that transcends seasons, with a few pieces that reflect your personality.
One of my favourite outfit is as above - My very well loved Isabel Marant khaki trench from their Hong Kong store many years ago, my Isabel Marant black two-piece, the Vatelle top and the Vadim skirt from the last Net-A-Porter sale, a Balenciaga clutch (I love anything studded) and my new boots from & Other Stories that I spoke about here.
Khaki is a great colour to dress down any outfit. In this case, the khaki trench breaks up the all-black outfit. The studded clutch (the piece that reflect my personality) makes the look a little casual but can be carried all the way to dinner
