Seminyak, Bali Travel Guide

Bali has a special place in my heart. The smell of the ocean is exquisite, the friendly locals and Balinese food is everything.

The first time I went to Bali was for my honeymoon two years ago. We pretty much holed up in Uluwatu (we stayed in the unforgettable Alila Uluwatu) with day trips around Bali but I knew that we will be returning.

The second time was only for three days during the recent Easter holiday so we picked somewhere central, Seminyak.

Again, we picked Alila because of their very considered architecture and aesthetic. The hotel also ticks all the boxed for us: rooms with sweeping views of the ocean, the close proximity to shops and restaurants and of course the beautiful pools. The dream.

Scroll on for my mini guide for Seminyak:

Potato Head - I was wrong, I assumed that this is for single young adults only, and we wouldn't fit in. Boy, I was wrong. The crowd is a mix of young, old and little ones. I  really enjoyed the relaxed and fun vibe. The food and the selection of cocktails are extensive. Be prepared to order way too many cocktails.

Nook - A few minutes away by taxi is this charming little restaurant in a paddy field. Amazing local cuisine.

Kaum - A sophisticated and beautifully designed restaurant with amazing Balinese food. There is a balcony outside if you want to have a drink only overlooking above Potato Head and the beach.

Merah Putih - Walking distance from Alila, the interior is unexpected, a mix of moody, glam, tropical but yet very relaxed. Enjoyed the food.

1/15 Coffee - I have followed their beautifully curated instagram for years but didn't get a chance to visit their original outpost in Jakarta. I enjoyed this cosy venue, on the same ground of Potato Head and Katamama.

Kim Soo Home - My only to-go shop this time. Beautifully curated store with a vast selection of locally made homeware and accessories. You will be sure to be "gramming before you even enter the store. I bought two beautiful straw bags for the price of AUD$60!

Bikini, Sisterfields and BO$$ MAN - These beautifully designed places owned by Adam McAsey are pretty much next to each other. I didn't get to go to these but their seem to be worth checking out.
